Balcón de Poniente
Balcón de Poniente 1 and 2 stand in a row of four residential towers of 26 floors each on Avenida de la Armada Española. The other two are called El Olivar. No source says when they were built.
The story
The two towers are 86 metres tall and have 26 floors. In the list of tallest buildings in Benidorm they rank 53rd and 54th. Under the year of completion there is a question mark, and the database SkyDB does not know one either. The complex lies on the Poniente promenade, not far from the Parque de Elche and the Guillermo Amor stadium. Holiday apartments are advertised with an outdoor pool, a children’s pool and tennis courts.
Four towers, two names
Four towers of the same height stand side by side here. SkyscraperPage lists them as ‘Balcón de Poniente 1 to 4’. SkyDB assigns them differently: the two western ones at Avenida del Xixo 3 are El Olivar I and II, the two eastern ones at Armada Española 11 are Balcón de Poniente I and II. Both names appear separately in the Wikipedia list, each with 86 metres and 26 floors. So these are probably two complexes that were built together – but that is not documented.
Who built and designed Balcón de Poniente is not recorded. There is no source on the origin of the name either; the obvious explanation is its position as a ‘balcony’ above the Playa de Poniente. The building has nothing to do with the well-known Balcón del Mediterráneo viewpoint in the old town.
