Cibeles
Cibeles 1 and 2 are two identical 28-storey residential towers in the district around the new court buildings. They were built by Ecisa, the company that also put up Neguri Gane and the town hall.
The story
The two towers were completed in 2002, each 88 metres tall with 28 floors. In the list of tallest buildings in Benidorm they rank 52nd. They stand on Avenida del Municipio, close to Avenida de Europa and the tram stop, around 600 metres from Levante beach. One estate agent gives 2001 as the year of construction; the databases say 2002. The difference is probably between start of construction and completion.
Built by Ecisa
The contractor was Ecisa, founded in 1968 by Manuel Peláez Castillo and his brothers in the Canary Islands and later based in Alicante. According to El Español (2022), the company has built more than 30 high-rises of over 25 storeys in Benidorm, among them Neguri Gane, Don Jorge, Gemelos 26, Sol de Poniente and the town hall. In that list, ‘Residencial Cibeles’ appears as ‘two identical blocks’. At the start of every project the founder is said to have called out: ‘¡Vamos directos al triunfo!’ In 2021 Ecisa passed to the Urbas group.
The design
The firm Pérez-Guerras Arquitectos lists the ‘Apartamentos Cibeles’ in its portfolio, without a year and without naming the designer. Roberto Pérez-Guerras designed Neguri Gane and In Tempo in Benidorm, among others. That Cibeles came from his office is therefore plausible, but not expressly confirmed. The complex is gated, with a communal pool, porter, children’s area and garage. The ground floor on Calle Oviedo houses commercial premises.
For Neguri Gane the same pairing, design by Pérez-Guerras and construction by Ecisa, is confirmed by the skyscraper database CTBUH.
