No. 66 of 84 in the list
Edificio El Olivar
El Olivar I and II stand at Avenida del Xixo 3 on the first line from the Playa de Poniente. The two 26-storey towers are often confused in skyscraper databases with their neighbours Balcón de Poniente.
The story
The towers are 86 metres tall and have 26 floors each, ranking 55th and 56th in the list of tallest buildings in Benidorm. No source gives a year of construction. On booking portals the complex also goes by the name ‘Los Olivares II’. It is advertised with direct beach access, sea views, a sun terrace, pool, concierge and parking. The Las Rejas golf course is about one and a half kilometres away.
The mix-up
On SkyscraperPage the two towers are called ‘Balcón de Poniente 1 and 2’. The database SkyDB assigns the same entries differently: the towers at Avenida del Xixo 3 are El Olivar I and II, the two just east of them at Armada Española 11 are Balcón de Poniente I and II. All four have 26 floors. The Wikipedia list treats both pairs separately, each with 86 metres and no year of construction. Whether the four towers were a joint project is not documented.
Who built and designed El Olivar is not recorded. There is no source on the origin of the name either. Today some of the apartments are let to holidaymakers; one provider used the name ‘Edificio El Olivar by Sonneil Rentals’ for a time.

Open questions
- Year of construction, developer, architect and contractor are not documented.
- SkyscraperPage lists the towers as ‘Balcón de Poniente 1/2’; SkyDB as El Olivar I/II – the coordinates in the brief (38.5373/-0.1445) are in the right place.
- Portals contradict each other on the pool (infinity pool, seasonal pool, no pool).
- One portal advertises direct beach access but at the same time gives 18 minutes’ walk to the Playa de Poniente.
