Torre Europa

Torre Europa is an 82-metre residential tower of 25 floors from 1983, also called ‘Edificio El Centro’. It is not to be confused with the younger twin towers of Parque Europa – even if letting portals do exactly that.

The story

The Spanish Wikipedia list of tallest buildings gives the tower its own entry: 82 metres, 25 floors, completed in 1983, documented via the old Emporis database. The accompanying photo is titled ‘Torre Europa (Edificio El Centro)’ – so the building has a second name. Built in 1983, it is one of the city’s older high-rises, 15 years before the Parque Europa towers with their 28 floors.

Where does it stand?

No address is documented anywhere. A holiday-let advert describes the location as quiet and well connected, five minutes’ walk from the Parc de la Séquia Mare and around 15 minutes from Levante beach. That fits the centre north of the old town, the zone around the town hall and Avenida de Europa – and the name ‘El Centro’. The location cannot be pinned down exactly from that. The same advert mentions a lift, garden, parking in the building and a communal pool open from 15 May to 15 September.

That the portals mix up Torre Europa and Parque Europa is shown by a Booking entry called ‘Apartamento Torre Europa’ whose web address contains ‘parque-europa’. The list separates the two clearly: different number of floors, different year, different photo. Who built and designed the tower is not documented. The Torre Europa of the same name in Madrid (1985) is a different building.

Open questions

  • Address and coordinates are not documented; probably the centre near Avenida de Europa.
  • Developer, architect and number of apartments unknown; height, floors and year rest solely on Emporis.
  • The portals mix up Torre Europa with the Parque Europa towers.
