No. 84 of 84 in the list
Coblanca 32 B
Coblanca 32 B on Avenida de la Marina Baixa belongs to the Coblanca cluster at the western end of Poniente beach. At 81 metres the building only just makes it into the list of Benidorm skyscrapers of 80 metres or more.
The story
The database SkyDB gives the residential tower a height of 81.1 metres, completed in 1997. The directory rascacielos.be gives the same height but a construction year of 1991 and 24 floors instead of 21. What is certain: there are apartments at least up to the 18th floor – one of them was for sale in 2019 for €260,000, with ‘impressive sea views’.
More complex than tower
What sets Coblanca 32 B apart from many of its neighbours is what is on the ground. The advert describes a lake-shaped pool, a sauna, a gym, squash and tennis courts, gardens and parking. The building dates from the time when Benidorm began to market Poniente as a quieter counterpart to Levante beach – with residential complexes instead of hotels.
Part of a series
Like Coblanca 37 next door and the twins of Coblanca 40, the building bears the name of the group of companies that built the city’s first true skyscraper, the Torre Coblanca, in 1966. Behind it is the Benidorm building contractor Isidro Bononat de Nalda, whose ‘Coblanca International Group’ has put up around 50 buildings in the region according to Valencia Plaza. What the ‘B’ in the name means – a second construction phase? – could not be established.
