No. 52 of 84 in the list
Coblanca 40
Coblanca 40 is a pair of 89-metre towers from 2002 on Avenida Murtal in Poniente. What is interesting is less the building than the number: it belongs to one of the longest series of buildings in the city.
The story
The twin towers of Coblanca 40 stand in Poniente, near Avenida Murtal in the Poniente hinterland, where the TM towers have been going up since 2016. The list of tallest buildings gives both as 89.3 metres and 27 floors, built in 2002. There is hardly any more data: no architect, no number of apartments, no newspaper reports. The towers are unremarkable residential blocks in which many apartments are now let as holiday accommodation.
From Coblanca 1 to Coblanca 41
The name gives away its origin. ‘Coblanca’ is the brand of a series of numbered residential buildings spread across the whole of Benidorm. Number 1 is the Torre Coblanca at the start of the Playa de Poniente, built between 1963 and 1966 to plans by Juan Guardiola Gaya and regarded as the city’s first true skyscraper. Coblanca 8 stands on Avenida del Mediterráneo in Levante, Coblanca 27 in Poniente. With Coblanca 41 on Avenida del Mediterráneo, 97 metres and 28 floors from 2007, the series ends as things stand. Coblanca 40 is therefore one of the last buildings in the series.
