Gemelos 12
Gemelos 12 is a pair of residential towers of equal height in the centre of Benidorm, between Avenida de Bélgica and Calle Islandia. They belong to the large family of ‘Gemelos’ twin buildings, about which little else is known.
The story
The two towers were completed in 1992. Each measures around 85 metres and has 28 floors. They stand not on the beach but in the densely built block behind Avenida de Europa, near the Benidorm Palace. Depending on the source, Levante beach is 600 to 900 metres away on foot. The database SkyDB ranks Torre 1 48th among the city’s tallest buildings.
The name follows a Benidorm tradition. ‘Gemelos’ means twins, and for decades towers built in pairs here were numbered in sequence – from Gemelos 2 to Gemelos 28. Spanish Wikipedia calls ‘Gemelos’ a brand name covering many of the city’s towers. Who planned and built Gemelos 12 could not be established. The local and trade press practically never mention the building.
What is known comes from letting portals: a fenced plot with terraced gardens, a communal pool with a children’s pool that is open from 15 June to 15 September, a tennis court and two lifts. Many of the apartments are one-room flats of just under 50 square metres with a glazed terrace. Parking is limited, some of it in the neighbouring building.
Good to know
- Two towers, 85 metres and 28 floors each, completed in 1992.
- Pool open only from 15 June to 15 September.
- Address, depending on the source, Avenida de Bélgica 1 or Calle Islandia 6 – the same block.
Open questions
- Developer, architect and number of apartments are not documented in any accessible source.
- Frommer’s gives 15 floors, the skyscraper databases 28 – probably an error in the travel company’s description.
