Hotel RH Victoria
The RH Victoria stands on Vía Emilio Ortuño in the centre, between the old town and Levante beach. It belongs to the Benidorm family chain RH Hoteles and opened in 2000.
The story
The tower was completed in 2000, 82 metres tall, with around 134 rooms. The Wikipedia list counts 22 floors, hotel portals 19. From outside it is a plain white block; inside, the lobby stands out, reminiscent of a cruise ship, with a glass-and-steel staircase and a dome in the shape of a globe. The upper rooms look out over the city, some as far as the sea. The pool terrace is small and often lies in the shadow of the neighbouring towers.
The RH chain
RH Hoteles is a family business from Benidorm. Founder José Hernández started in 1980 with one hotel in the city; today his son Pablo Hernández runs the group with 23 hotels between Vinaròs and Jerez, seven of them in Benidorm. The operating company is called Resthotel S.L. In Benidorm, says Pablo Hernández, growth is difficult: the market is mature and plots are scarce. Who built and designed the Victoria in 2000 is not documented.
The 2020 rebuild
After a room renovation in 2014 and new pools in 2015, the hotel closed for several months in 2020. All rooms, the restaurant, bars, reception and kitchens were renewed, the façade insulated and sealed, the lighting switched to LED. The furniture was designed by Estudio Ainhoa Arquitectura. In the restaurant hang 3D ceramic tiles from the ‘Luna’ series. In 2021 a spa with a heated hydromassage pool, sauna and steam room was added. Since then the hotel has traded as RH Victoria & Spa.
