Torre Doscalas
The Torre Doscalas stands a few metres from the Gran Hotel Bali at the western end of Benidorm. At just over 100 metres it is one of the tallest residential buildings in the city, but one of the least documented.
The story
The tower was built between 2001 and 2003 and inaugurated in 2004. According to Hispanopedia the plans are by the architects Víctor García and J. Gonzálbez. The concrete building has 31 or 32 floors, depending on the source, and measures 100.4 metres. On completion that placed it among the tallest buildings in the city, before the building boom of the following years pushed it down the rankings.
Its most striking feature is the façade: the north and south sides are each divided in the middle by a red column that runs like a stripe over the full height. Otherwise the building is a typical residential tower of its time, with glazed terraces and sea views from the upper floors.
The complex lies in the La Cala zone, about 600 metres from Poniente beach. Its facilities include a communal pool with a children’s area, open in summer, a garden, a padel court and an underground garage. Many apartments are now let as holiday apartments, often under the name ‘Torre Doscalas Poniente’.
Nothing public can be found about the developer, the contractor and the number of apartments. The name is not explained either; ‘Dos Calas’ means ‘two coves’, and a reference to the position between the Cala de Benidorm and the Cala de Finestrat is the obvious reading, but it is not documented.

Open questions

- Developer, contractor, number of apartments and origin of the name are not documented.
