The story

The two towers were finished in 2009, in the middle of the Spanish property crisis. They were designed by the architects Juan Carlos Oliva Bielsa and José Antonio Murcia Meseguer. Together they offer 326 apartments; the address is Calle Lérida 4-6, with a second entrance on Calle Kennedy. At 114 metres they are, according to CTBUH, number 11 in Benidorm and number 34 in Spain.

The missing third tower

The project envisaged a third, lower tower on the neighbouring plot across the street, with 27 floors according to one description. It was never built. According to one description there is no building in the vicinity that matches the two towers in height. According to El Español they were built by the Alicante firm Ecisa, which also lists the towers in its project portfolio.

Holiday apartments with an indoor pool

Today many apartments are let to tourists, among others through the providers Renthas and Vicokei, which advertises ‘incredible views from the 25th floor’. The complex has an outdoor pool for summer, a heated indoor pool for the whole year, tennis and padel courts, a playground and an underground garage with a lift straight up to the apartment. Guests praise the view from the terraces but criticise the ageing bathrooms.

Good to know

  • 114 metres, 31 floors, 326 apartments in two identical towers.
  • All-concrete construction, completed in 2009.
  • A planned third tower on the neighbouring plot was not built.
  • Heated indoor pool, outdoor pool and tennis court are part of the complex.
  • In 2014 Regalado counted the architect Juan Carlos Oliva among the defining high-rise architects of Benidorm.

Open questions

  • Developer and contractor are not publicly documented; ECISA lists the project without naming its role.
  • Where the name ‘Oboe’ comes from is documented nowhere.
  • A geocaching page calls the towers ‘Maeva Benidorm’ – probably a former letting name, not confirmed.
