The story

The Hotel Poseidón Playa opened in 1977 on the first line from the Playa de Poniente, with 312 rooms on 17 floors. Since 1995 it has belonged to the Hoteles Poseidón group under Pere Joan Devesa, a family business from Benidorm with hotels also in Guardamar, Torrevieja, Vall de Laguar and La Manga. The hotel markets itself as a family hotel with mostly Spanish guests.

From 25 storeys to 30

Plans for a second tower go back to 2019: then 350 rooms on 25 floors, with construction to start in 2021. Things turned out differently. In 2022 the company signed an agreement with the city for more building rights: it pays €940,273 and cedes 1,522 square metres of land, and in return may upgrade the old building to four stars superior and build anew behind it. In 2024 the project grew to 30 floors plus two parking levels, 287 new rooms and an investment of €40 million.

Spa on floor 25, pool on floor 27

The tower was designed by Gemma Devesa Gascó and Carlos Teba Martín, who had already been involved in the first plan in 2019. The spa with saunas, hammam and water circuit goes on floors 25 and 26, with an infinity pool overlooking the sea above it. Three restaurants totalling 1,111 square metres and a function room for 602 guests are included. Construction was scheduled to start in October 2024; the hotel website warns guests of heavy machinery until 1 June 2027. With the resort, the group passes 2,000 rooms.
