Torre Sakura
Torre Sakura is the slender stand-alone tower between the TM towers in Poniente. 76 apartments, a curved shell and two penthouses with their own rooftop jacuzzi.
The story
The developer is CHM, Construcciones Hormigones Martínez, a construction company that acted as developer here. The tower was designed by JAS Arquitectura, a firm from Benidorm. The project became known in November 2020; by April 2021 all the reports needed for the building licence were in and positive. In return CHM deposited a €75,000 bond for the demolition on the plot and the construction of an access road, and ceded 462 square metres for a public car park.
The architects describe the building as a ‘balanced design of straight lines with an enveloping curve’. The façade is fully glazed; only the rear carries an aluminium grille. Over it lies a skin of composite that wraps around the building like giant petals. The lifts and stairs are bundled at the rear, which is why, according to the architects, practically every room has a sea view. From many angles the tower looks ‘more like a sculpture than a building’.
Prices for second-home buyers
The cheapest one-bedroom apartment of around 70 square metres cost €188,000 plus VAT; three-bedroom apartments started at €399,000. One of the two duplex penthouses on floors 22 and 23 was reserved for €810,000 before construction even began: 165 square metres inside, a 36-square-metre terrace and a 140-square-metre solarium with jacuzzi. Alicante Plaza wrote in 2021 that the prices were aimed at international second-home buyers and were unaffordable for most locals.
Construction began in 2021. Handover was first planned for the end of 2022, then for the end of 2023; in September 2023 the building-services engineers Caselles Ingenieros reported the final phase of construction. The glass was supplied by Cerviglas: toughened safety glass, laminated glass and argon-filled insulating glazing for the windows and glass balconies.

Open questions
- Number of floors 22, 23 or 25 depending on the source; height 91 or 95 metres.
- ‘Sakura’ is Japanese for cherry blossom. That fits the ‘petals’ of the façade, but there is no evidence for the choice of name.
- The actual handover date is not documented.
- In 2021 one forum gave 22 floors and 74 apartments, the press 76.
