Edificio Neptuno
The Edificio Neptuno stands not on the beach but inland, near the bus station and the courts. At almost 96 metres it is one of the tallest residential buildings in the city, yet it is almost undocumented.
The story
Spanish Wikipedia lists the building at 95.9 metres, 29 floors and built in 2002, relying solely on an entry in the now defunct Emporis database. The tower is missing entirely from the CTBUH directory and from the English list of the tallest buildings in Benidorm.
What can be found comes from property adverts. According to these, the Neptuno lies in the Juzgados district, the courts quarter, near the La Estación shopping centre with its bus station and supermarket. The complex stands on a 6,600-square-metre plot with a communal pool, tennis court, sports pitch, playground and green areas. An apartment on the 16th floor with a ‘panoramic view over Benidorm’ was offered for €190,900.
Developer, architect, contractor and number of apartments are not publicly documented. Nor is there anything on the origin of the name; Neptune, the Roman god of the sea, is a common building name in Benidorm. A tower of this height away from the beach zones is unusual, yet no press reports on it could be found.
The Alicante contractor Ecisa, according to El Español (2022), names a ‘Neptuno’ among its Benidorm high-rises – probably this building.
